GRAND TERRACE>> The City of Grand Terrace has been hard at work over the past few months. Deep into the process of rolling out the red carpet for several new projects, including an animal hospital and a dog park, the city is working hard to not only draw in new residents, but to make life more enjoyable for the current residents.
Those traveling to work in the early hours of the morning may have noticed the construction workers and heavy machinery. They're working to make the Barton Road Interchange project a reality.
The project, which is set for completion in 2019, will include improvements to city sidewalks, more bike lines, and a much anticipated roundabout west of the southbound on and off ramps. Along with the realignment of the freeway, traffic signals are also set to be upgraded.
The city hopes to be able to improve incoming and outgoing traffic around the city, a prospect which has local business owners and others who work in Grand Terrace excited.
"There will be more traffic coming into the city," said Eischen, which means more commercial businesses and more people moving into the area.
Zack Eischen, who is a resident of Grand Terrace and who has recently received his real estate license, is rightfully excited about all the changes coming to Grand Terrace.
With streets such as Vivienda Avenue, Michigan Street and Commerce Way being configured to ease traffic congestion, residents will have more incentive to drive through the city rather than taking back roads in order to avoid traffic. In turn, this will add to an increase in local business.
The Barton Road Interchange Project is a approximately $92.3 million project. With funds have been pouring in from Federal and Local sources, it's clear that Grand Terrace is in store for some exciting changes.
