More than 140 golfers teed off at Redlands Country Club for the 36th annual Redlands Community Hospital Foundation Golf Classic for the Ken Corwin Cup to raise $230,000 for the hospital’s emergency department expansion and renovation.

For more than three decades the tournament has served as Redlands Community Hospital’s largest and most visible fundraising event. The proceeds from the event will support the expansion and renovation of the hospital’s growing emergency department. The improvement project will include the development of an eight-bed fast track area, a 12-bed pod for moderately ill or injured patients, a 12-bed high-acuity pod with two critical-care rooms, five rapid medical evaluation/triage stations and additional nursing stations and offices.

“We want to thank our honorary co-chairs c, all of our participants and our sponsors for coming together for an afternoon of fun to support our hospital’s emergency department expansion,” said Jan Opdyke, president of the Redlands Community Hospital Foundation.  “Our Emergency Department is vital to the community and the expansion and renovation will allow us to more than double the amount of people we serve each year.”

Following the tournament, participants gathered for a special awards dinner featuring live and silent auctions during the festivities. Among the items that were auctioned this year were a ride in the Goodyear Blimp, Los Angeles Angels tickets for seats behind home plate, and a dinner for 10 by Watercress Vietnam Bistro.

The Ken Corwin Cup is dedicated to the memory of Kenton W. Corwin, longtime president of the hospital foundation and a prime mover in the tournament’s establishment and success.

More than 80 volunteers from the hospital, the country club and the community organized the tournament. The events sponsors included: Hamilton Construction, Citizens Business Bank, Lockton, the Redlands Community Hospital medical staff, and many others.
