Valley View Makes History

Valley View High School earned 2nd place in the Riverside County Office of Education Mock Trial. The Mock Trial involves students arguing cases in front of real judges, and are scored by practicing attorneys. The competition is open to all students in grades 9 - 12 enrolled in public and private high schools in Riverside County.

After four rounds of competition, legal teams from eight local high schools advanced to the “Elite Eight.” More than a dozen students were honored for top performances with the blue ribbons and prestigious internships in local legal organizations.

Keenan Cooper from Valley View High School who earned 2nd place and a silver medal in the “Witness Category.” Josiah Jones from Valley View High School was recognized as an outstanding defense attorney. He also secured a summer internship with the Public Defender’s Office and Riverside County Bar Foundation’s Honorable Douglas E. Weathers Scholarship.

“We are so proud of the mock trial team,” said Superintendent Dr. Martinrex Kedziora. “Last year they made it to the final four and this year they earned second place. They are phenomenal students who have truly worked so hard and that is evident in their success.”

“This was outstanding news for all of us,” said School Board Clerk Susan Smith. “Our students set a goal for themselves and worked towards it. Although they did not earn first place, they did advance from last year and they are continuously making us proud.”
