The Redlands Symphony closes its historic 2018-19 season with a concert inspired by nature with the Glorious Gift of Birds, featuring internationally acclaimed flute soloist, Sara Andon.  Maestro Ransom Wilson will conduct the orchestra in this finale performance on Saturday, May 18, 2019 in Memorial Chapel on the campus of the University of Redlands.  Doors open at 7 PM.  The concert begins at 8 PM.  There will be a pre-concert talk by Maestro Wilson starting at 7:15 PM.  Tickets prices start at $15 and can be purchased online at www.redlandssymphony.com, by telephone at (909) 587-5565 or at the door on concert night.

“Birds – the original musicians – have fascinated composers since the Stone Age,” according to Wilson, “I am an unrepentant lover of nature myself, so I have put together a program that showcases orchestral evocations of birds through the ages.  It turns out that these portraits of a nightingale, goldfinch, Arctic birds, and swans make a very exciting lineup!”

The evening’s program includes Song of the Nightingale by STRAVINSKY, VIVALDI’S Concerto for Flute in D. op. 10 no.3 “Goldfinch” performed by Ms. Andon, Concerto for Birds and Orchestra by RAUTAVAARA, and TCHAIKOVSKY’S Swain Lake Suite, op. 20a.
