Councilman Paul Foster is running for re-election on the November 2014 ballot. First elected to the council in 2010, he has served as the city’s mayor pro tempore throughout his term. Foster, a San Diego native, said his “desire to serve the people of Redlands and continue to move our community forward in a positive manner” initiated his aspiration for re-election, something he felt would bring “continuity and stability” to the city. Foster said, “As a body, our council has worked together professionally as a team. It is in doing so that we have been able to advance Redlands as a unique community in which to live, have a business and raise a family. I hope we will be able to continue working with that as our philosophy when the new council is seated.” Focuses he would like to see the council continue, Foster said, are its “focus on ensuring the fiscal stability of the city” and “a continued focus on the quality of life issues in Redlands, such as parks, open space, trails and citrus preservation.” Continued economic development and an increase of its council priority are among the focuses Foster explained he would like to see, in addition to the continuation of improvements to city infrastructure, streets and water systems. “To ensure that the city builds on the progress that has been made over the past four years by continuing to move forward with the road map to success we have been following” is his overall vision for the city if re-elected, Foster said. Foster holds an undergraduate degree in political science/public administration from the University of San Diego and a master’s degree in human resources from the University of Redlands. His over 30 years experience as the assistant medical group administrator for the Southern California Permanente Medical Group where he “oversees hundreds of staff and a multi-million dollar budget” are other qualities that Foster said made him suitable for re-election. Other city council hopefuls this year are Jane Dreher, Neil Derry, Paul Barich, John Harrison Montogmery, Tabetha Wittenmeyer and incumbent Jon Harrison, who also seeks re-election.
