Lions Gather for Pot of Gold Dinner

On Saturday, Nov. 9, the Grand Terrace Lions Club celebrated their 33rd Annual Pot of Gold Dinner. Chairperson Burt Seuylemezian and committee members Second Vice District 4L5 Governor Lion David Radtke, Lions Deborah Seuylemezian, Roy Nix, Ruthanne Christianson, Russell L. Carter, Maria and Manny Baltierra, Jim McNaboe and Yvette Alleyne put in numerous hours of time and effort to bring over 230 people an evening filled with fun, food, dancing and excitement. This is the Grand Terrace Lions Club’s biggest single event fundraiser. Proceeds from this event are distributed to the Grand Terrace Lions Club’s various charities that include youth grants and scholarships, a Lions Student Speaker contest, Guide Dogs of the Desert, the Loma Linda Lions Eye Foundation, City of Hope, California Lions Friends in Sight, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Grand Terrace High School Leos, and many community projects, just to name a few. This year’s theme, “Simply Red, with a touch of Chocolate” brought out the red gowns, shoes, cummerbunds, bow ties and vests. Once again, this year’s event was held in the Valencia Room at the Orange Show Fairgrounds. Two hundred and fifty Pot of Gold tickets were sold at $200 each; the numbers were verified and placed in a drum and drawn out one at a time. The last number drawn is the winning number; this year there was a five-way split. Typically when the final 10 numbers are left, the excitement builds and the option of splitting is explored. All parties must agree, and if a finalist is not present and has not designated their desires of splitting, the drawing continues until the last number is drawn. This year the final five ticket holders agreed to split. The winners splitting $20,000 include Janet Howard, Laura Mendez, Marie Vidmar, Carron Pagels and Richard Burns.
