Foundation President Darcy McNaboe recently announced that she was stepping down from her role as President of the Foundation of Grand Terrace to focus her efforts more completely on her new role as Mayor with the City of Grand Terrace. McNaboe will continue her work with the Foundation as a board member. McNaboe, only the second President of the Foundation since its formation on Sept. 23, 2003, has served in this role since November 2006. The founding President, Jim King, played an instrumental role in raising the over $40,000 to create the Foundation’s fund with the Community Foundation of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. During McNaboe’s tenure, the endowment has grown to over $140,000. At its February meeting, the Foundation board officially accepted McNaboe’s resignation and named board member Thomas Rice to succeed her as president. “The Foundation will continue to thrive with the board leadership that is currently in place. I am confident that Tom will do an excellent job and I intend to continue my support for the organization through continued service on the board,” stated McNaboe. Thomas Rice, a local resident and attorney with the law firm Best Best & Krieger LLP, will fulfill the role of President effective immediately. “The board and I look forward to a strong 2015 and beyond,” stated Rice. In the coming year, the Foundation shares that it will concentrate on developing awareness of the Foundation’s work in the community and building funds for its important community projects. According to their website, the Foundation aims to strengthen the community by enhancing the lives of people in Grand Terrace through the building of permanent resources to support community needs. The Foundation is made up of a number of subcommittees including: the Dog Park Committee; the Veterans Wall of Freedom; Keep Grand Terrace Clean and Beautiful; Community Events; Healthy GT; and Youth Services. On June 6, the Foundation will host its principal event, Grand Terrace Community Day, at Rollins Park. Other upcoming events include a spring cleanup weekend April 18-19, and an event honoring veterans on Memorial Day, May 25 at Pico Park.
