Son of Wilson and Helen Sorensen, and husband to Roxann Gleave Sorensen, Kory passed away on April 3, 2019; after a multi-year battle with Multiple System Atrophy (sometimes labeled as MSA or Atypical Parkinson's disease). He is survived by his loving wife as well as 6 children; Trevan (Alexis) Sorensen, Cody (Jen) Sorensen, Emily (Scott) Yeates, Bryan (Tanairi) Sorensen, Brad (Nikki) Sorensen and Danny (Whitney) Sorensen; and 15 grandchildren.

Kory was born in Provo, Utah.  He had an older sister Kathy, and two older brothers Kent and Kim.  Kory had a wonderful childhood growing up in Provo with lots of friends, riding bikes, and playing ball.  Kory had a love for sports from an early age, and would play as much as he could.  He played Little League, track and when a little older played football.  He would play basketball wherever he could find a hoop and a ball.

Kory lettered in four sports at Provo High School; football, basketball baseball and track where he did the pole-vault.  While a senior at Provo High in 1973 the football team came in 2nd place in the State Championship, the basketball team won the State Championship, and in baseball Kory was named All-State catcher.

After Graduation Kory attended Utah Technical College where he played basketball.  He served a 2-year Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Kobe, Japan.  On return from his mission he again attended UTC and played basketball again.  He sold books door to door for four summers to earn money for school.

Kory and Roxann met and married in 1978.  The newlyweds both attended and graduated from BYU.  With one child and another on the way, Kory and Roxann moved to Ventura, CA for a couple of years while Kory worked in the fund raising business.  They returned to Utah for a couple of years and two more children. A career change brought Kory and family to Grand Terrace, CA.  Kory worked in the Medical sales and rental business for 30 years.  Two more boys joined the family and Kory had lots of kids to Coach.

Kory coached many teams in the Colton – Grand Terrace area.  He loved working with kids, his own and many others.  When Trevan started high school we soon learned that Colton High was in need of a basketball coach.  Kory offered to help in any way possible, and soon was the head Coach for the Varsity team.  He coached as a side job for 7 years, along with coaching his own kids in soccer, basketball and baseball.  Many years were spent at Colton High with 15 straight years of a Sorensen playing.

Kory served on the Ken Hubbs Foundation Board for several years.  He also served as a Bishop for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints for six years.

In 2015 it became necessary for Kory to retire from his job because of his medical condition.  The Sorensen’s moved to American Fork, UT where they were closer to family.  The last few years have been challenging, as Kory had to deal with his progressive debilitating disease.

Kory spent his life in the service of others. There was rarely an opportunity to serve that he passed up which has made his bout with MSA his greatest challenge as he has had to rely upon family and neighbors to serve him, for which he was forever grateful. His favorite coaching line was always "it's a game of inches" but with Kory, he always went the extra mile.

We invite you to join with us in celebrating and memorializing the wonderful life of this amazing husband, father, grandfather and servant of the Lord. Funeral services will be held Saturday April 13, 2019, 11:00 am at the LDS ward chapel at 270 N. 900 E. American Fork.  Viewings will be held Friday, April 12, 2019 6-8pm at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 E. 800 N. Orem, UT, and at the Church, Saturday 10:00 – 10:45 am.  Interment at Eastlawn Memorial Hills 4800 N. Eastlawn Dr. Provo.
