Great Things Happen When...

The start of a new school year is a stressful time for students and families; the stress is often magnified when parents realize they do not have the finances to give their child the basic tools they need to succeed in school. Arrowhead United Way is supporting these families in need through its annual School Supply Drive, providing basic school supplies, including backpacks, to students in the Colton Joint, Rialto, and San Bernardino Unified School Districts. As these disadvantaged children move forward with their education it is Arrowhead United Way’s goal to build that child’s confidence by simply helping them be prepared. Thanks to community supporters, Arrowhead United Way was able to collect over $12,000 in school supplies and backpacks. Supporters include Target Distribution Center, BNSF Railway, ITT Tech, San Bernardino County Sheriff Department, McLane, San Bernardino Employment and Training Agency, Gresham Savage Nolan & Tilden, National University, Smith Marion, Community Action Partnership San Bernardino, Kaiser Permanente and individuals throughout the community. The School Supply Drive was also supported by volunteers from BNSF Railways, Inland Empire Job Corps, San Bernardino County Child and Family Services and Target Distribution Center. These volunteers were enthusiastic about prepping, sorting, stuffing and filling over 400 back packs with paper, pencils, folders, erasers, rulers and much more. “We are extremely pleased to be able to provide school supplies and backpacks to the children of families that are struggling financially. We appreciate all of our many partners who supported us in this effort,” said Doug Rowand, President of Arrowhead United Way.
