The San Bernardino City Unified School District held a ribbon cutting ceremony for its newly remodeled main administrative offices on Tuesday, December 10, and the event served as the perfect opportunity to rename the Community Room for longtime educator Dr. Margaret Hill.

The decision to rename the Board’s meeting chambers the Dr. Margaret Hill Community Room surprised Hill, who has served on the Board since 2011 and retired from the District in 2003, following an illustrious career as a teacher and administrator.

Hill was moved to tears after a plaque bearing her picture was unveiled to the public.

During her career in education, Dr. Hill has become an endearing leader who has had a profound impact on students, teachers, and administrators, many of whom have been shaped by her tireless advocacy on behalf of children. Her decades as a District teacher and high school principal are a testimony to her extraordinary leadership, her passion for educating students, and her drive to ensure they are prepared for college and careers.

The renaming of the Community Room was held in conjunction with a ribbon cutting ceremony for the renovated Board building, which houses many of the District’s administrative offices.

Originally opened in 1979, the Board of Education building recently underwent a major remodel that included energy efficiency upgrades, a new HVAC system and fire alarms, and new technology.
