A day-long celebration of Japanese culture is slated for Thursday, May 29, at Cal State San Bernardino from 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m. at various locations on campus. Co-hosted by CSUSB’s Center for International Studies and Programs and the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles, the event is free and open to the public. All activities will be either in the outdoor patio of the Lower Commons or the Obershaw Dining Room in the Upper Commons. Activities include a Japanese tea-time event; a lecture by the Consul of Japan in Los Angeles on the relationship between Japan and the U.S.; a lecture on Japanese pop culture; a calligraphy lecture and workshop; and various other interactive presentations and activities by students. “It is the first time we have a day-long event at CSUSB celebrating the Japanese culture,” said Makiko Amaya, a lecturer in CSUSB’s department of World Languages and Literatures and coordinator of the event. “It is a unique opportunity for our students and local community to experience a variety of topics on Japanese culture, which is aimed at enhancing their multi-cultural awareness and global perspective,” said Amaya. Other sponsors of the event include CSUSB’s department of World Languages and Literatures, the College of Arts and Letters; the Cross Cultural Center, NEH Grant and the University Diversity Committee.
