In a day and age where nearly half of marriages in the U.S. end in divorce, a local couple have truly been the exception to that statistic. This year, on Sept. 21, James Otho and Doris I. Trusty celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. The couple was married at the Nazarene Church in Colton on Oct. 16, 1939 just before the United States became involved in WWII. Throughout their marriage they resided in the Inland Empire. They moved to Beaumont in 2009, previously residing in Colton for 54 years. During their marriage they also lived in Bloomington and Redlands. Jim worked for the PFE Railroad from 1937 to 1940; for the Colton Cement Company from 1940 to 1942. He served in the US Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946. After WWII he worked for V.P. Hunt Truck Company from 1946 to 1957. For the next 22 years Jim worked as Water Superintendent for the City of Colton, retiring at age 63. He didn’t stay retired for long; he was hired to be an inspector by NBS Laurie Engineering in San Bernardino. He worked there for 15 years until retiring at age 80. Jim is 94 years young. During WWII, Doris served our country grinding lenses for binoculars for the military. She later worked as a sales representative at a drug store. What she enjoyed most was being a homemaker and caring for her son Terry Lee. Doris is 92 years young. The couple had one son, Terry Lee, who passed in 1983. Terry had one son, Terry James (T.J.) Greenside-Trusty. T.J. and wife Katerra gave Jim and Doris their only great grandson, Sylus Ryan. The family had an anniversary celebration at their home in Beaumont on Sept. 21 with family traveling from as far away as South Carolina.
