Colton Area Museum Receives New Flags

On Thursday, Oct. 3, the Colton Area Museum (CAM), located at 380 N. La Cadena Ave., welcomed the arrival of three new flags—the United States flag, the MIA/POW flag, and the State of California’s “Bear” flag. For years, the previous set of flags have been flying over the CAM doorsteps, but due to their faded and tattered condition a new set of flags was sought to grace the building. Two weeks ago, Museum Docent and community advocate Dr. Luis S. Gonzalez—Dr. G—began to contact several City departments regarding the idea of replacing the flags. Within a matter of days, Al Garcia, a supervisor in the Public Works Department, responded to the call. “He was so enthusiastic about the project. He not only tracked down a new set of flags, but he also offered to have them properly posted on the flagpole before the weekend, just in time for the 4th Annual Colton Area Museum Sidewalk Sale,” said Dr. G. The sale ran Oct. 4 through Oct. 5, and is the CAM’s main fall fundraiser. “The flags are stunning,” boasted Dr. G, “and they can be easily noticed because of their rich colors.” Members of the Museum, along with two crew members of public works, joined together to post the flags. The CAM invites the public to visit the museum and take a look at the new flags. Regular CAM hours are Wednesdays and Fridays, 1 to 4 p.m., and on Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Plans are also being made for the second annual Open House, slated for May 3, 2014. The event will feature new displays, the CHS yearbook collection, music, refreshments, guest speakers and museum tours. More information about this event and future CAM events is available by calling the museum at 909-824-8814, or Dr. G at 909-213-3730.
