The Auxiliary of Community Hospital of San Bernardino (CHSB) recently presented a check for a record-breaking $95,000 to the hospital Foundation. The funds were raised through numerous activities conducted during the past year and will be used by the hospital to benefit health related services for enhanced patient care. Last year, the auxiliary made history when it donated $90,000, the largest annual auxiliary donation at that time. In 2013, the auxiliary yet again reached a new milestone with the $95,000 gift. The combination of the two years’ donations will support the purchase of mammography equipment. “The auxiliary is indispensable to this hospital,” said June Collison, president of Community Hospital of San Bernardino. “The volunteers’ unwavering dedication to our mission and generous support of vital services and programs enhance patient care and safety across the board.” Since its founding in 1958, the auxiliary has been an integral part of the hospital. “We take great pride in serving our hospital and our local community,” said Denise Ramsey, auxiliary board president. “We’re very pleased to support the purchase of the mammography equipment with this $95,000 donation. Previous donations from the auxiliary have funded new technology, state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and supported hospital services, including emergency and maternity, among others. In 2013, 30 auxiliary volunteers contributed to the hospital’s success with over 9,000 hours of service. “We are extremely grateful to our volunteers who donate countless hours at the hospital gift shop and help support fundraising efforts for the hospital,” said Sandee Zschomler, vice president and executive director, Community Hospital of San Bernardino Foundation. “This generous gift was made possible thanks to the dedication of the auxiliary members and their loyal customers.” Collison added that the auxiliary’s volunteers make a tremendous difference at Community Hospital as they directly support the work of the staff and show compassion toward patients and visitors. “We think the world of our auxiliary and we are honored by their generosity,” she said. Auxiliary members provide a wide array of services to the hospital such as greeting visitors, staffing the gift shop, sewing crafts in the volunteer center or guiding patients and visitors to their destinations.
