On Saturday, July 18, the California Baptist University men's basketball team celebrated the past and present of its program by hosting the Lancer Community and Alumni Extravaganza featuring two alumni games and a practice session of the 2015-16 Lancers. Lancers from the 1960-99 era competed in the first alumni game, and fans saw some of CBU's greats take to the court once more in Warren Daniels (1989-92), the Lancers' all-time leading scorer with 1,716 points; Steve Deering (1973-76), all-time rebounder with 1,024 boards and second all-time leading scorer with 1,669 points in his career; and Steve Johnson (1973-76), CBU's all-time assister with 487 career assists and fifth all-time leading scorer with 1,519 career points. Three former coaches also returned to the court in Jerry King (CBU's all-time wins coach), Floyd Evans and Scott Mossman. The new millennium class (2000-15) competed in the second game, featuring players who helped CBU transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II. Fresh off his playing days, Chris Brown (2013-14 PacWest Defensive Player of the Year) reunited with teammates Anthony Cosentino and Ivan Patterson, who both received all-conference recognition after securing the program's first PacWest Conference Championship in 2013-14. Following the second alumni game, fans got a chance to see the 2015-16 Lancers in action with a look into a practice session as they gear up for summer competition in Canada. Returning this fall for CBU are two three-point shooters on pace to move up in the all-time record book. Gelaun Wheelwright (2014-15 PacWest Newcomer of the Year) and Ryan Berg (2013-14 PacWest Player and Freshman of the Year) look to dazzle fans once again from beyond the three-point arc. The pair rank in the top-10 of the all-time career record book for three-point field goals made with Berg in eighth (122) and Wheelwright in ninth (109).
