Whether it was Bill Nord’s crisp photography or Keith Klingonsmith’s unique “Oranges from the Gods,” the All-California Juried Exhibition at San Bernardino’s National Orange Show was a truly impressive display. The All-California Juried Exhibition showcased several other local artists’ fine artwork and was part of the larger 98th annual National Orange Show Festival that occurred during the same time as the exhibition. The festival featured rides, games, animals, and treats galore for the family to enjoy a lovely afternoon in San Bernardino. Whether it was the classic Ferris wheel or testing yourself against zero gravity in the UFO, the festival had fun and games for a few days. While you enjoyed those thrills and comforts, you could also enjoy the entertainment of balancing acts on the stage or live music throughout the afternoon. For those interested in local artistic talent, the National Orange also featured an unforgettable art exhibit collected by the San Bernardino Art Association. The San Bernardino Art Association worked in conjunction with the National Orange show to exhibit the submissions made by many local artists seeking exposure for their talents. The art exhibition featured prizes awarded to local winners in two categories: an open subject piece and one that was based on citrus fruits in some way. There were over 60 pieces on exhibit for the 64th All-California Juried Art Exhibition. The San Bernardino Art Association presented the numerous art pieces for National Orange Show patrons in an open exhibition area for all to view. The first, second, and third place winners in each category were awarded ribbons and had their pieces purchased for display in the San Bernardino Art Association’s Gallery. The winners, Tony Radcliffe for the Open category and Efren Montiel-Jimenez for the Citrus category, faced competition and artwork from various other mediums and styles. The other submissions utilized terra cotta, fiber, oil, canvas, watercolor, and photography mediums. San Bernardino Art Association Treasurer Dianne Stacey noted that “Many of these artists get an opportunity to show their work.” Mrs. Dianne Stacey also noted that the art association curated and conserved the artwork for display while the National Orange Show judged the pieces and awarded the prizes. The artwork on display was truly a great demonstration of local artistic talent. San Bernardino Art Association Vice President Juan Esqueda noted that the event “hopefully gets more recognition for the work that the art association does for maintaining the work of several artists.” The art association holds exhibitions for local artists and they are actively looking to receive more grants and funding so they may continue to preserve the artwork for others to admire.
