Trona Earthquake Update

• San Bernardino County, State and Federal agencies turned out in full force July 11 for a Trona Town Hall meeting. Several hundred Trona residents were briefed on relief efforts and resources.

• The Local Assistance Center at Trona High School is a one-stop location is currently providing resources for free.  Services include: childcare, housing resources, clothing and food vouchers, counseling services, resources for the elderly and disabled adults, insurance assistance and more. Operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

• Water has been restored to all areas of Trona. Boil Water Advisory orders remain in place.

• Dumpsters for household trash only will be available at the Library, 82805 Mountain View St. and at the Sanitation Station, 13177 Trona Road. Inspectors will be on site.

• Residents with Access and Functional Needs (AFN) can call Victor Valley Transit Authority at (760) 947-5719 extension 141 to schedule pickups at Trona High School, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

• To report damage or specific needs, please contact the San Bernardino County Emergency Operations Center at 909-356-3998 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

• Multiple County Departments continue their response to provide the residents of Trona and surrounding communities’ water and other essential services.

• The San Bernardino County Fire, Office of the Fire Marshal is continuing to conduct damage assessment in the Trona Area. FEMA officials will be conducting damage assessments to determine overall needs. This initial assessment will not include meetings with individual property owners.

• Supervisor Lovingood continues to talk with federal and state officials on needs in Trona.

• San Bernardino County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD) in coordination with local faith based organizations are distributing goods and pet food to earthquake affected Trona residents:

• Christian Fellowship of Trona83435 Trona Rd.

• First Baptist Church of Searles Valley  84661 Trona Rd.

• New Hope of Searles Valley Foursquare Church 82194 4th St. Trona

• United States Postal Service reports that home-to-home delivery of mail is being provide by carrier. Residents with post office boxes will still have to go to the Ridgecrest Post Office. The Trona Post Office is closed until further notice.

• As of 10 a.m. Thursday, the following is being delivered to Trona High School:

o 2,000 pounds of ice 7/11/2019

o 3,000 pounds of ice scheduled for  7/12/2019

o 3,000 pounds of ice scheduled for 7/13/2019

 

  • Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicles (ERV) have been traveling through the community of Trona and assisting where needed. They have been handing out water, snacks, and clean-up kits to residents in need.
  • One Red Cross ERV has been sent to Trona High School, 83600 Trona Road, to supply sandwiches and Meals Ready to Eat (MREs), 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily until potable water service is restored.
  • Pacific Gas & Electric reported that all natural gas service has been restored to the Trona area. For residents needing gas restoration, call 1 (800) PGE-5000 and ask for earthquake restoration services.
  • Bottled water is available for residents and their animals at Trona High School 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
  • Behavioral Health staff will be available at Trona High School for any residents needing support services, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • The water main received extensive damage and is still being repaired. We do not have an estimated time of service restoration. Updates will be provided as we receive them.
  • County Supervisor Lovingood met with first responders and community leaders in Trona Saturday. He continues to work to obtain additional resources for Trona.
  • There is still work underway to establish a cooling center for residents to use during the heat of the day. A couple of sites being considered are currently being assessed.
  • The Office of Emergency Services is in process of considering establishment of a Local Assistance Center (LAC) for Trona residents to have a one-stop location with resource information for needed assistance.
  • Portapoties have been delivered to the Trona area.
  • Ridgecrest Regional Hospital has re-opened
  • Argus Avenue between Sage Street and Wildrose Street has re-opened.
  • If residents need a cool place to go, the Kerr McGee Community Center located at 100 W. California Avenue, Ridgecrest, is open to all residents.
  • A once-a-day shuttle will depart from Trona High School at 10 a.m. and return from the American Red Cross Shelter in Ridgecrest ‪at 12:00 p.m. (noon). The Victor Valley Transit Authority will be providing the transportation service.
  • There are services for Disaster Health, Mental Health, and Spiritual care available at the shelter located at Kerr McGee Community Center.

Southern California Edison has restored electricity to Trona. If additional work requires electricity to be shut off, we will provide updates as we receive them.

 Here is the latest update on the July 4 earthquake:

• As of 7:30 a.m., there have been no new damage or injuries reported

• Aftershocks continued overnight and through this morning (July 5) ranging from magnitude 2 to 5.4 in Searles Valley and Ridgecrest

• Ridgecrest Regional hospital will remain closed for at least an additional 48 hours

• ICEMA continues to communicate with hospitals as needed

• Currently no unmet needs

• Service has been restored to the affected areas of Trona

• CalTech seismologist Lucy Jones said to expect more aftershocks and that there is a one in 20 chance of a larger earthquake.

• The State Water Resources Control Board Division of Drinking Water, the San Bernardino County Health Department, and the Searles Domestic Water Company are advising residents of Trona to only use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes.

 The affected area includes: Westend, South Trona, Argus, and Trona Village. 

• A comfort and care shelter has been opened at the Kerr McGee Community Center, 100 W. California Ave. in Ridgecrest.

• Two (2) mobile American Red Cross units with comfort kits, clean-up kits, and water will be deployed to the community of Trona today, July 5, and will also conduct additional needs assessments. The mobile units will be roaming through Trona. A fixed location is not planned at this time.

Following is a summary of the July 4 earthquake and response and activities:

• At 10:33 a.m. per USGS, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake occurred 12km west of Searles Valley at a depth of 8.7km.

• At 10:35 a.m. per USGS, a magnitude 4.7 aftershock occurred

• All County Fire Divisions moved equipment onto their pads and assessed damage.

• Inland Counties Emergency Medical Agency (ICEMA) conducted hospital polling for damages

• Office of Emergency Services polled city/towns for damage

• San Bernardino County Fire OES is continuing to monitor the situation.

• County Fire units conducted damage assessments and survey in the Trona area.

• A Heavy Rescue and Engine, along with a Battalion Chief have been moved to Trona to assist in full area inspection.

• Supervisor Lovingood’s Office delivered water and ice to Fire Station 57 on Trona Road.

• ICEMA polled all San Bernardino County Hospitals and there are no reports of damage or injuries at facilities.

• ICEMA moved a Liberty ambulance to Trona.

• Inyo County Sheriff Dispatch confirmed they have NO REPORTS of injuries or 911 calls secondary to the earthquake.

• Ridgecrest Hospital on the Southeast Corner of Kern County evacuated all 12 patients to Tehachapi Hospital. There are no reported unmet needs as of 12:30 July 4.

• There have been multiple 4.0 or greater aftershocks.

• Ridgecrest Hospital evacuated due to structural damage and cannot accept any patients until further notice.

• Apple Valley Fire is supporting China Lake Naval Weapons Station to assist with multiple gas leaks and emergencies on base.

• Multiple power outages reported in the Trona region. No current estimated time of repair.

• Multiple reports of road damage on State Route 178 in the Trona Area.

• A cooling center and cell phone charging area for residents has been set up at the Trona Golf course, 82700 Trona Rd., 93562

• ICEMA continues to coordinate with Inyo and Mono Counties for mutual aid and/or unmet needs through the Regional Disaster Health Medical Specialist.
