On Saturday, Sept. 6 the Grand Terrace Lions Club held the third annual free Movie in the Park event at Richard Rollins Park, featuring The Lego Movie. The event has been around for years but this is the third year in a row the Grand Terrace Lions have hosted. The Lions began providing the Movie in the park in 2012 after the City was unable to continue. This year's chairpersons were Lions Wayne Whipple and Penny Radtke. The event is the one time each year that families can come out for the park screening. Parents brought their children where they were able to enjoy various forms of entertainment and food options before the movie started. Sherry and Candy of Lollipop provided face painting to a number of attendees' faces and arms. In the parking lot, courtesy of the Grand Terrace Lions Club, Stonez Rolling Video Games entertained kids as they ran to the game trailer to play some of their favorite video games and received free glow sticks. A water balloon toss and potato sack race kept the community on their toes as they all fought for the win. As the movie's start time neared, popcorn, water and glow sticks were dispersed throughout the crowd. Before the movie started, attendees enjoyed the many free and fun activities and giveaways for children and adults to enjoy. The Grand Terrace Woman's Club provided complimentary oranges and raffled two movie baskets containing snacks and $10 movie certificates. The GTHS Leo Club facilitated sack races and water balloon tosses for the kids. The Foundation of Grand Terrace provided free bags of popcorn. The Grand Terrace Chamber of Commerce distributed free water. Boy Scout Troop 40 helped us with clean up. "The Grand Terrace Lions Club enjoys providing this free event as another way of giving back to our great community!," said Lion Penny Radtke. "We had approximately 300 in attendance this year and are planning on providing this event again next year in August."
