The Class of 2014 proudly marched towards their seats as family and friends cheered on Sunday, June 8th at the Loma Linda Academy Athletic Field. It was a very busy weekend for the graduates as festivities began with a Consecration and Baccalaureate at the Loma Linda University Church followed by Class Night in the school gym, and then ending with the commencement. The Consecration was a beautiful service with musical selections played by the selected seniors, baptisms and a sweet parent tribute to all the parents that were instrumental in their success. To Pastor Randy Roberts, of the Loma Linda University Church and the speaker for the Friday night service, this service was extra special as his daughter Miranda was part of the graduating class. Saturday morning church service was the Baccalaureate where Garrett Speyer spoke on that big question of "what next" after graduation followed by the group photo outside of the church--where they shot their famous hat toss and many more pictures with family and friends. Saturday evening was Class Night in the high school gym where the graduates dressed up in their favorite Peter Pan characters and walked the "plank" towards Neverland. Parents of the senior class and class sponsors worked tirelessly making fantastic sets and props and the class displayed their great talents of sumo dancing, singing and acting. Sunday came too quickly and soon the students were waiting to get their diplomas. Principle Pastor Robert Skoretz presented them with the challenge of continuing their class motto of "Stay Classy" as they ventured out beyond the walls of their school and home. For the first time also, Pastor Skoretz took a moment to recognize students that took part in school government, the paper, sports teams and other community projects. After 4 years of editing papers, working on history projects, studying for chemistry and biology exams, memorizing bible texts, and preparing for language presentations, Loma Linda Academy's senior class graduated. To say the road to one of life's most anticipated days, as being a challenge is an understatement and yet these students went above and beyond as they worked towards excellence. With their diplomas in hand, the Class of 2014 leaves not only the gift of a new outdoor basketball court for the high school, but a legacy of a what it means to be a part of the Seventh Day Adventist community. As many said throughout the weekend, Class of 2014, best of luck and may you always stay classy.
