Grand Terrace is a community that pulls together, is always on the ready to help whenever there is a need. This time the City News Group is sharing information about a family that has always been there for others, and whether in the background or leading the charge, the Serna family is well known for their commitment to others. A Grand Terrace family who in the past helped raise funds to cover a surgical procedure for their son’s friend, the Sernas are now asking for nothing more than prayers and well-wishes for their own son, who is battling Stage 4 Lymphoma. Dylan Serna, 22, was diagnosed with a form of non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in January; it’s an aggressive form of cancer that requires aggressive chemotherapy treatments. But while the family is happy to receive prayers, well-wishes and cards, they’re not looking for monetary donations of any kind, explained Dylan’s father John Serna. “We are fortunate to have dual coverage and low monthly payments; all we really need are prayers,” he said. His wife, Jewlie, who helped spearhead the efforts in 2006 to raise funds to cover the cost of an experimental procedure for Dylan’s high school friend, named Kyle Bacon, added, “People in Grand Terrace are so giving. Fundraising isn’t needed here; Kyle needed fundraising because it was an experiment procedure according to their insurance company. We are so fortunate to have dual coverage and he is being treated at City of Hope.” Dylan, who is studying internal medicine at Cal State University San Bernardino, is a semester away from graduation, but has had to place his educational goals on hold as a result of his diagnosis. Those who would like to send cards may mail them to: Dylan Serna c/o John and Jewlie Serna 22805 Kentfield St. Grand Terrace, CA 92313
