Nestled along Mission Boulevard in Riverside, California, the Preston and Simons Mortuary has served the local community since its founding. With a history that navigates through more than a century of service, this establishment has become a vital part of Riverside's historical tapestry.

The mortuary was founded in 1910 by Walter W. Preston and Samuel Simons. Initially established to meet the growing needs of the Riverside community, it provided funeral services and final resting solutions at a time when the city was expanding rapidly. The original location was designed to be a comforting space for grieving families, emphasizing care and compassion during their difficult times. In 1940, they moved to their current location on Mission Boulevard.

Over the decades, Preston and Simons Mortuary has successfully handled thousands of services, earning itself a reputation for professionalism and empathy. The mortuary has been operated by different generations of the Preston and Simmons families, maintaining a tradition of service since its inception.

The architecture of the mortuary is reflective of the era in which it was built, showcasing classic designs with an elegant facade. The building’s structure is characterized by Gothic influences, often churning out an aura of solemnity, befitting its purpose. With well-maintained interiors, it provides a respectful and serene environment for families

As with many establishments holding a long history, Preston and Simons Mortuary has been the subject of various spooky stories and urban legends. Local lore often suggests that the mortuary is haunted, stemming from the high volume of services conducted over decades. Some visitors and staff have reported unusual occurrences, such as unexplained noises, flickering lights, and the sensation of being watched.

With Riverside being home to many historic sites, it’s not surprising that some inhabitants believe that spirits from the past linger in places like Preston and Simons Mortuary.

The Preston and Simons Mortuary stands as a testament to Riverside's rich history and culture. While it serves an important role in offering dignity to those who have passed, its ghostly tales and haunted reputation add an intriguing layer to its longstanding legacy.
