MVUSD Adopts New Strategic Plan

Moreno Valley Unified’s new Strategic Plan, a blueprint for accelerating student success, is the result of by far the most community-inclusive effort ever undertaken by the school district. And, as School Board President Tracey Vackar explained, the community focused on a clear objective that’s summed up in the new mission statement: “The mission of Moreno Valley Unified School District is to ensure all students graduate high school prepared to successfully enter into higher education and/or pursue a viable career path.” “It couldn’t be more clear and direct than that,” said Vackar. “Our entire strategic plan is clear, concise and focused on results. That’s one of the many ways we benefited from including students, parents, and other community members in our planning process.” Vackar explained that preparing students to graduate on time and move forward with confidence toward college or work was the community’s bottom line. “Of course, a great deal of work goes into that preparation for students’ success after graduation, but when it came time to state a clear mission for what we do each day,” she said, “for those who spent months developing this plan it was all about results.” She added that one of the school board’s first actions to implement the new Strategic Plan was to forward to voters a new school construction bond measure. Measure M, which would allow the district to modernize and improve schools and enhance learning district-wide, will be on the November ballot. The strategic planning team includes students, parents, teachers, classified district staff, representatives of the local business community, faith communities, colleges, and other community stakeholders, along with several school board members and MVUSD administrators. The team began meeting monthly in October 2013, and continues to work to publicize the plan within the school district and to the larger community. The new Strategic Plan is available online at www.mvusd.net/strategic.
