The University of Redlands was recognized for being a college where students receive personal attention, its living/learning college and strong professional emphasis, and as being one of higher education’s best-kept secrets in the 2015 edition of the "Fiske Guide to Colleges". The best-selling college guide notes one of the University’s most distinctive attributes, "the experimental living/learning environment at the Johnston Center, where students create their own course of study and are judged by self- and professor evaluations rather than grades." The Fiske Guide, authored by former New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske, is designed to give a selective, subjective and systematic look at more than 300 colleges and universities in the U.S., Canada and Great Britain, and seeks to give readers the real personality of the institutions based on a range of subjects including student body, academics, social life and financial aid. Other quality programs noted in the guide were the professional programs that the University of Redlands offers through its School of Business and School of Education as well as the programs in the School of Music and communicative disorders. “What’s particularly helpful about the Fiske listings is that they are based on feedback from students who attend our university and have first-hand knowledge and experience to share,” said Karen Bergh, director of public relations for the University of Redlands. One student described Redlands as a “small liberal arts college in sunny Southern California with great financial aid packages.” While another student said, “The professors are the school’s biggest asset.” Fiske Guide picks are based on information provided by administrators and anonymous questionnaires completed by students, according to the introduction to the guide.

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.
