This week’s GTHS student athlete is Manuel Camacho. Manuel is a multi-sport athlete playing middle linebacker and various other positions on the GTHS Varsity Football Team. He has played all three years of high school and was a part of the history-making 2017-2018 Undefeated Sunkist League Champions, who made it to the second round of CIF playoffs.

He also is a captain on the GTHS Varsity Wrestling Team. Camacho wrestles at 160lbs and is a two-time CIF qualifier in that weight class. He was named “2018 Wrestler of the Year” by the GTHS Wrestling coaching staff. Camacho’s most recent athletic achievement occurred during his second year of running Varsity Track last Thursday, as he took third in the Sunkist League finals in the high jump.

The boys track team also took the Sunkist League Championship for the 4th year in a row. He currently holds a 4.0 GPA, was nominated for 2018 Boy’s State, and was a part of the CJUSD Tomorrow’s Leaders Awards Ceremony. When asked what his inspiration was, Camacho had this to say “I have always had a competitive nature and wanted to be the best at everything I do. When my parents challenged me to maintain a 2.5 (GPA), I strived for a 4.0. When no one thought I was going to make Varsity, I strived to be the best I could be in every sport I am a part of.”
