The Worthy Conference will be returning to Centerpoint Church in Colton on March 21 to March 22, 2014. This year will mark the third year for the Conference which is geared towards bringing a message of encouragement and hope into the lives of junior high and high school aged young women. Director of the Conference Erin Melzer has been working in youth ministries for over 11 years. “This year, the theme of the Conference is ‘SPARK’ and we hope to spark a fire in the everyday relationships held by the young women who will attend. We want to let them know that they are worthy of good things, and we want to challenge them with the question ‘What impact are you making in your own areas of influence…at home, at school, with friends and family?’ We want them to realize how they are being a light in their own communities.” Last year’s Worthy Conference was attended by over 130 young women from across the Inland Empire and from as far away as Downey. This year the Worthy Conference planning team has found interest in the conference from young people in Fontana, Calimesa, Wrightwood, El Cajon, Redlands and San Bernardino. Lissa Ward, Co-Director of the Worthy Conference said, “When I was a teenager, I would say to myself, ‘I’m just a teenager, what difference can I make?’ And well, I don’t want anyone to feel that way, ever. I want to make sure that every young woman knows they can make a world of difference every day, in many ways.” Melzer and Ward explained that their goal with the Worthy Conference is to empower teenage girls to know they’re worth a lot more than the message they get in many everyday situations now a days. “We want them to discover that they are created as a valuable child of God, and we want them to own the identity that that discovery gives them, so they can be everything they were meant to be. Worthy of all good things,” said Melzer. The Worthy Conference costs $25 and is geared for junior high to high school age girls. It will be held March 21 and March 22 at Centerpoint Church at 170 West F Street in Colton. You can find out more information about this conference at www.worthyconference.com or on Facebook.com/WorthyConference.

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.
