Free Residential Cleanup Day Helps Keep San Bernardino Clean

Taking advantage of the City of San Bernardino’s invitation to leave unwanted items at the dump site, the residents of San Bernardino city lined up early on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 28. With a growing population of over 200,000 citizens, the free dump site was the opportunity for many residents with unwanted items that needed to be safely discarded; the site at Perris Hill Park was taking cleanup from 8 a.m. that morning through 11 a.m. No hazardous or construction materials were allowed during the drop-off, and Saturday morning’s turnout was large. The dump site provided the ability to get rid of unnecessary things that regular rubbish pickup cannot accommodate, and in the process, creates a cleaner city for the residents. Municipal Code chapters 8.21 and 8.24 have set forth San Bernardino City law for the appropriate containment, collection, and disposal of garbage, rubbish, recyclable discards, green waste, combustible material, and byproducts, according to the City of San Bernardino’s official website. The website also states that the City is required by state law “to divert materials being land-filled through reducing waste at the source, reuse of materials, and recycling and composting.” There will be three more free residential cleanup days through January 2014. They are as follows: Saturday, Oct. 26 at Seccombe Lake Park, 160 E. Fifth St. (at Sierra Way and 5th St.); Saturday, Nov. 30 at Western Regional Little League Park, 6707 Little League Dr.; and Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Anne Shirrells Park, 1367 N. California St. (at California and Baseline). Residents must bring proof of residency to participate.
