Colton District 2 Holds Town Hall Meeting

COLTON>> In March, Colton District 2 held a town hall meeting at the VFW Post 6476. Approximately 40 residents attended the meeting, which was hosted by Bernie Moyeda of the VFW Post 6476. Summer Jorrin, city council member; Shannon Kendall, the Fire Dept. Emergency Support Coordinator; Victor Ortiz, Public Works Engineering Superintendent; Reggie Torres (speaking) of the Public Works Dept.; Jessica Sutorus, Environmental Conservation Supervisor of the Utilities Dept., Fire Chief Tim McHargue, Police Lt. Jim Joliff, were also in attendance. “It was a very well attended event,” said council member Summer Jorrin. At the meeting, residents were able to voice their concerns and hear updates about city services. The meeting addressed several important issues. Colton Police discussed the safety of some of the local neighborhoods, as well as street racing. The fire department discussed disaster preparedness and the CERT program. Public works gave updates on district 2 projects such as street repaving and sidewalk installations. Traffic Safety Committee on Proposed School Zone Safety Improvements at Grant Elementary & McKinley Elementary. Energy efficiency rebates and water conservation were also mentioned. Colton Disposal Services, previously Republic Services, provided new vendor information. Colton Middle School’s Field Rehab Project was discussed as well. Residents were also able to submit service request forms at the meeting. “I’d like to see participation in District Town Halls grow so our residents can be more involved in our city,” Jorrin said. “I encourage everyone to take advantage of these great opportunities to hear what services Colton has to offer.” For more information on this event or upcoming Colton events, visit http://www.ci.colton.ca.us/ or tune into channel 3.
