National Preparedness Month

September is National Preparedness Month, and it’s the perfect reminder that a little planning today can save a lot of stress tomorrow. Emergencies don’t wait until it’s convenient, but being ready doesn’t have to be complicated.

Have a go-to kit with essentials, make sure your family knows a couple of different ways to get out of the neighborhood, and keep those important phone numbers written down somewhere (not just in your cell phone). Even small steps like these can go a long way when the unexpected happens. Think of preparedness as building your own personal safety net.

I know “getting prepared” can feel overwhelming, like one more big thing to add to the to-do list. The good news is you don’t have to do it all at once. Start small. Add a few extra items to your grocery cart for an emergency kit, or set aside ten minutes this weekend to talk through a family plan. Those little steps can add up to a lot of peace of mind.

Preparedness also means thinking beyond our own front doors. Check in with friends and relatives, consider your furry family members, and even your neighbors who might need an extra hand during an emergency. When we look out for each other, we’re not just surviving, we’re thriving as a community.

At the end of the day, preparedness is an act of care for your family, friends, and our community. When we look out for one another, Moreno Valley becomes not only more resilient, but also more connected. That’s the spirit that makes MoVal such a special place to live.
