San Bernardino Valley College Men’s Cross Country sophomore Anamacio Cardenas (Bloomington High School) and freshman Danny Torres (Bloomington High School) were recently named to the 2013 All-State Academic Award list for cross country. Torres competed with the team last season, but Cardenas has been a key to the success of this season. Cardenas helped the team take 18th place at the UC Riverside Invitational and was instrumental in grabbing a 12th place finish at the Stanford Invitational, individually placing 69th with a time of 25:55. He also individually placed 9th with a time of 21:11.8 at the Howard Brubaker Invitational, giving SBVC the team win at that event. The most recent event that Torres completed was the Foothill Conference Invitational on Sept. 20, 2013 where he finished with a time of 25:29, placing him 79th. SBVC Men’s Cross Country team will be going into the Foothill Conference Final in search of their 19th straight championship at Legg Lake in Whittier. This will be the last Foothill Conference final to feature Rio Hondo as they will be dropping their program at the end of this season.
