National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer Bill was enacted by Congress and signed into law by President Truman on April 17. President Reagan amended the law in 1988, designating the First Thursday of May each year as the National Day of Prayer.

This year’s event is set for Thursday, May 3 at noon. It will happen on the lawn of the Old City Hall Building off Court Street (between “D” and “E” street). According to Rev. Alan Rosenberg, pastor of the Christian and Missionary Alliance church in San Bernardino, and chairman of the National Day of Prayer, “We are preparing for 300 people to gather for intercessory prayer.”

Pastor Rosenberg emphasized that the community of faith has mandated responsibility to “seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you… Pray to the Lord for it.” (Jeremiah 29:7)

During the event, prayer will be offered for: personal repentance, San Bernardino elected officials, first responders, military, harmonious race relationships, religious leaders and for God’s protection for America.

San Bernardino Mayor Care Davis will bring the welcome. The following community leaders will pray: Tracy Johnson, Larry Lee, Ray Miller, Dan Roth, Cassandra Walker, Joshua Beckley, and Paul Williams. Rubidoux High School Air Force ROTC, led by Tech Sgt. Neil Walker will open the prayer gathering by presenting the colors and singing the National Anthem.

On page 34 of his book, America, A Call To Greatness, John W. Chalfant writs, “Ultimately, it all comes down to this. God is the creator of our freedom. Everybody, our Congress, our political representatives, the citizens, must obey God in the manner He set forth in the Bible. If they do, America will remain free and invincible. To the extent that we abandon God, He will abandon us.”

Rev. Rosenberg said, “Our hope is that the National Day of Prayer assembly will generate a prayer momentum that America has not yet seen since the days of Billy Graham.”
