City employees and volunteers received recognition at “An Afternoon with the Stars,” the City of Redlands seventh annual employee recognition held at the Civic Center. The City’s Human Resources Department and Employee Appreciation Committee, made up of employees from various departments planned the event, which for the past five years has been held at City Hall during most employees’ lunch hour. Local food vendors offered discounts, setting up a lunch time spread including burritos, pizza, chicken, cupcakes and funnel cakes. Other businesses donated dozens of prizes for a raffle giveaway. During the awards ceremony, Oct. 23, managers, full-time and part-time employees and volunteers were recognized for providing service above and beyond their job descriptions. Award recipients were nominated by their peers and chosen by a review committee composed of one city employee and two members who work for other agencies. A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.
