MORENO VALLEY >> An outstanding 14 California Baptist University women's water polo players were named to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-Academic Team. It marks the most ACWPA All-Academic honorees in program history, previously held at 12 in 2007. ACWPC All-Academic awards are given in three tiers: outstanding, superior and excellent. Half of the Lancers were marked as outstanding by posting a GPA between 4.00 and 3.71. Superior students fall between a 3.70 and 3.41 and excellent honorees logged a 3.40 to 3.20. CBU had the second-most student-athletes named to the teams, with 10 Lancers picking up Outstanding distinction — the most of any school. Jessica Castellano, Marnie Kavern, Meghan Rowland, Courtney Menard, Pua Wong, Valerie Spezzaferri, Amy Bideshi, Hannah Evans, Annie Eubanks and Laura Kocsis each grabbed Outstanding recognition for their performances in the classroom. Allie Coleman and Jocelyn Schwegler each were tabbed Superior, while Lizette Perez and Caroline Howard rounded out the selection with Excellent honors. It was the fourth-straight honor for Evans, Menard and Rowland, while Castellano and Spezzaferri have both made the team three years in a row. Eubanks and Kavern also made repeat appearances on the list after debuting last season. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete's head coach must be a member of the ACWPC, while the athlete must attain a grade point average in excess of 3.20. A total of 504 athletes were named to the team with the ACWPC awarding 131 Outstanding, 198 Superior and 175 Excellent accolades.
