The San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) Homeless Education Department held its 8th annual Community Wellness & Resource Fair on Saturday, Nov. 15. The event was free and open to community members. Starting at 10 a.m. at the New Hope Family Life Center in San Bernardino, 40 vendors set up their tables and resources for the public. The school district's Telice Ostrinski shared, "This event seems to be getting bigger and more popular each year." Attendees were given the opportunity to receive a free lunch on a first-come, first-serve basis. According to Ostrinski they prepared meals for about 300 participants. Not only was the lunch free but the fair was provided with about 100 reusable grocery bags filled with groceries for families in need, also given out on a first-come, first-serve basis. In addition to the booths offering wellness and health information to adults, the children were attracted by the Kidz Zone which was overflowing with kids games and activities including face paintings, martial arts demonstrations, carnival games, a large train to drive young kids around and a giant bouncer. Ostrinski shared, "We are really excited that we were able to provide information and services for the community." Representatives of local governmental and non-profit agencies were also available to answer any questions about free and low-cost services available to local families in need. The Community Wellness & Resource Fair was made possible by: Arrowhead United Way, Inland Empire Concerned African American Churches, The Salvation Army, Southern California Edison, and the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools.
