The Moreno Valley Unified Board of Trustees will be led by Gary E. Baugh for the coming year. He was chosen unanimously by his colleagues to serve as Board president at the Board’s Dec. 9 meeting. The School Board chose Cleveland “C.J.” Johnson to serve as vice president. Jesus M. Holguín is the Board’s new clerk. “Moreno Valley Unified is running at full steam these days,” said President Baugh. “We are so fortunate to have outstanding teachers and support staff, and a leadership team that understands the vision of the School Board and makes it come to life. It seems as though every day we’re winning new accolades for improving student academic achievement. Our challenge now is to keep the momentum and to build on our success.” Also at the meeting, newly re-elected Board members Baugh, Holguín and Johnson were sworn in for new terms. Holguín, sworn in by California Assemblymember Jose Medina, is beginning his fourth term; Johnson, whose two granddaughters administered the oath, begins his second term; and Baugh, sworn in by his wife, Joan Baugh, is starting his second non-consecutive full term. He returned to service on the Board in 2013 when he was appointed to fill a vacancy, and won election in November 2013 to serve the one-year remainder of the term. Baugh previously served as a member of the School Board from 1998 to 2002.
