SAN BERNARDINO>> San Bernardino County Fire Chief Mark Hartwig recently announced the promotion of Division Chief Tim Porter to Assistant Chief, assigned to Division 11. His new duties will include training, safety and special operations. Division 11 maintains the training and certification for San Bernardino county's fire personnel and has established new certification levels in wildland training. In leading Division 11, Porter will oversee all training and safety operations, manage the department’s emergency medical services and all other aspects of wildland firefighting, include the professional hand crew, inmate hand crew programs, and the heavy equipment program. Dating back to 1991, Porter has more than 25 years of fire service experience. He began his career at the Victorville, California Fire Department and was brought over to San Bernardino County Fire as a Captain in July 2008. Porter was promoted to Battalion Chief in March 2015, serving Division 3, the High Desert Division, which includes the communities of Victorville, Spring Valley Lake, Adelanto, Silver Lakes, Helendale and the Southern California Logistics Airport. In October 2016, he was promoted once more, this time to Division Chief of Administration. Porter oversaw support services including warehouse operations, vehicle services, fleet management, bid transfers, management of the hiring/testing recruitment process and special projects. “We have some of the most talented and skilled individuals in their respective fields working in Division 11, all of whom I am proud to be given the opportunity to lead," Porter said. "And I look forward to strengthening the state-of-the-art programs and training services at San Bernardino County Fire."
