GRAND TERRACE >> Monday, June 6 marked the graduation of the first cohort of Grand Terrace High School (GTHS) at San Manuel Stadium. Though students have graduated from GTHS before, 2016 was the first year students who have attended the school all throughout the four years of their high school career graduated. After a whirlwind week of finals that began May 31, 520 graduating seniors gathered at San Manuel Stadium in San Bernardino with their friends, family, teachers and administrators who came out to join in on the celebration. Commencement began with an arrangement of “Pomp and Circumstance” for the processional march, performed by GTHS Band and their director, Robert Ransdell, featuring the Honor Guard. Bloomington High School NJROTC did the presentation of colors, leading the audience during the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance. The National Anthem was performed by soloist and graduating senior Aaryn Tamasoaalii and the GTHS Band. Principal James Western and President of the Board Patt Haro gave a welcome speech and opening remarks, and then the GTHS Singers performed the musical number “I Lived,” led by Director Anna DeLeon. Graduating senior Wade Preciado gave the salutatorian address, while Robert Castillo and Denise Kidd gave the valedictorian address. After the presentation of the senior class gift, Western presented the class of 2016 and they ensued with the conferring of the diplomas, the turning of the tassels, the alma mater and the class yell.
