The Riverside Community College District (RCCD) will honor four outstanding individuals along with program and business partners for notable contributions to RCCD colleges and the community on April 24 at the 2014 RCCD Annual Recognition Awards & Arts Gala. The gala will feature live student performances by music, dance, and theatre groups from the Moreno Valley, Norco and Riverside City colleges. Proceeds from ticket sales, sponsorships and a silent auction will support college performing arts programs. “This exciting annual event highlights the contributions of friends and supporters to our colleges and community,” said Interim Chancellor Cynthia E. Azari. “I cannot think of a better way to celebrate than with an evening of outstanding student performances and the recognition of some very special individuals.” The 5:30 p.m. event is co-hosted by the RCCD Foundation and will take place at the Riverside Auditorium and Events Center. “We are so excited to come back and stage our signature event at this beautiful venue, which really showcases our student performers and award recipients,” said RCCD Foundation Director Amy Cardullo. “Without our sponsors and community supporters it would not be possible.” Six vocal, instrumental, dance and theatre groups from Moreno Valley, Norco and Riverside City colleges will perform during the evening, sharing the spotlight with RCCD Recognition Awards recipients: • 58th Alumnus of the Year — Kathy Wright, Ed.D, retired superintendent, Alvord Unified School District • Distinguished Public Service — Starting Blocks Program participating partners • Moreno Valley College Young Alumnus — Dr. Jesus Oliver, mathematics instructor, UC San Diego • Norco College Young Alumnus — Jonathan M. Trdan-Schmidt, analyst, Naval Surface Warfare Center • Riverside City College Young Alumnus — Shawn Marshall, International Baccalaureate Program coordinator, Norte Vista High School, Alvord Unified School District • Outstanding Partner — Southern California Edison Reservations for the 2014 Annual RCCD Recognition Awards Dinner & Arts Gala can be made now and several sponsorship levels are available.
