In Memory of H. Frank Dominguez, Dorene Dominguez, Chairman of The Vanir Foundation, and San Bernardino City Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Dale Marsden and the Vanir Foundation Board of Directors celebrated the grand opening and partnership of the H. Frank Dominguez Elementary School on Nov. 13. “The school has been open and educating students since the start of the school year in August,” Principal Alejandro Hernandez said. “This event is a chance for us to share our beautiful campus with the community and showcase our wonderful students and staff.” The festivities included a school adoption by Crosswalk Church, first grade singers, and a special presentation of the H. Frank Dominguez plaque by Dorene Dominguez. As part of the school's adoption, Crosswalk Church will provide educational supplies for students. Adopt-a-School is a joint effort of the San Bernardino City Unified School District and the San Bernardino Area Chamber of Commerce. After the ceremony, a mariachi band led guests to a reception followed by school tours by Dominguez Elementary school students. The Vanir Foundation announced their partnership with H. Frank Dominguez Elementary School. As stated by Ms. Dominguez, “Since its inception in 2004, the Vanir Foundation has helped thousands of students by bringing academic enrichment programs to our partner schools.” Provided funding goes toward Apple iPad Airs, for use of technology in the classroom; science and college-focused field trips to enhance learning outside the classroom; Honor Roll incentives to encourage student achievement; school uniforms; and the "Engineering is Elementary" program, exposing students to engineering concepts through hands-on workshop approaches. The goal of the partnership is to engage students in learning activities stressing critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills required for success in high school graduation, college, career and life. Principal Alejandro Hernandez said, "We're a 21st century skills school, planting the seeds of hope, inspiration, knowledge, and relationships." The school is named for H. Frank Dominguez, who passed away in 2004. He left behind a legacy of achievement and philanthropy. At the age of 25, Dominguez founded Vanir, which has grown into Vanir Development Company, Inc.; Vanir Energy, LLC; and Vanir Construction Management, Inc. Dominguez Elementary is located at 135 South Allen Street in San Bernardino.
