The annual Loma Linda Spring Fine Arts Festival is sponsored by both the Loma Linda Cultural Arts Association and the Office of Student Affairs, Loma Linda University. Participants include artists from our surrounding community, LLU students and other personnel, in addition to the members of the Loma Linda Cultural Arts Association. Works from two categories: painting in any medium, and photography or alternate art, hang on the walls of LLU Drayson Center (25040 Stewart Street) and the Loma Linda Civic Center (25541 Barton Road). On Tuesday, May 22, the exhibit in both venues will end.
But prior to the removal of art works and in celebration of the 2018 Fine Arts Festival, on Sunday, May 20, participants and art-minded friends are invited to enjoy comradely conversation, a demonstration by a nationally-known artist, the awarding of prizes, and refreshments, all in the pleasant setting of the Student Center Lounge at LLU Drayson Center.
There is no charge; all who attend are requested to contribute snack-type finger food to share.
Festivities begin at 1 pm, with a demonstration by Jim Salchak, watercolor artist. He has also served judge for the 2018 Festival and later will present the awards to winners. Salchak will also discuss his ideas on what characteristics of an artistic work catch the attention and appreciation of those who serve as judges of artistic work.
Local teachers of piano and stringed instruments present various recitals in the Collins Auditorium, located in Drayson Center. On Sunday, May 13 there will be music from violin and piano from 10 am to 2 pm; piano music will be featured from 6 to 9:30 pm. Sunday, May 20 will showcase the students of six teachers, beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 9 p.m.
