Little League All Stars Team Brings Home Championship Win

The Grand Terrace Little League Girls Jr. Softball All Star team brought home the banner after nabbing the title of District 21 Champions this year. The group of 10 girls beat out Colton’s Ken Hubbs All Stars for the honor—the first banner the League has brought home in four years. Rivals Ken Hubbs All Stars have a reputation for winning, and this year the GTLL Jr. Softball team was able to begin its new record, and the team didn’t hesitate to celebrate. Said the team’s manager Mike Brewster, who is also the league’s Safety Officer, of the win: “It was crazy. The girls were so happy. Last year we lost to Ken Hubbs in the finals. I’m just really proud of the girls.” “It’s a big deal,” said his wife Jennifer. The victory came after playing a two-game series against Ken Hubbs at Pico Park on July 7 and July 8. Grand Terrace beat Ken Hubbs July 7 with a 20–7 score and took the championship title July 8 with their 25–12 win. The girls celebrated by popping apple cider bottles and running around the field with their championship banner. The team’s victory also comes after the League had copper wiring worth some $5,000 stripped from their baseball fields, leaving the fields dark and the teams forced to cancel games or play elsewhere. Repairs were made to the field by Todd Peters Electric, and fundraisers helped raise enough money to hold the All Stars games at Pico Park and help jumpstart the next Little League season. “After having our wires stolen, it’s cool to bring something like this back to the community,” said Brewster. “Now we have a banner to hang up.”
