A First in Colton History

In an inspirational move, this February will be the first time that Black History Month will be recognized in the City of Colton. The South Colton Diversity Committee (SCDC) along with local sponsors will be honoring African Americans who have contributed to the City of Colton and other nearby communities.

An awards ceremony will be held at The Crossings in South Colton on Saturday, February 18th starting at 5 pm. Title Sponsors of this event include A.I.M Colton (formerly The Ecology Center), Sombrero Market, and Casa Valdez. Guest speakers will be addressing the history of Colton and the City’s anticipated needs to stay relevant in a rapidly growing Inland Empire.

Teaming up with The Inland Empire Black Chamber of Commerce the South Colton Diversity Committee has been able to schedule events throughout 2023 that will showcase minority-owned businesses in the area. “Currently the Colton Chamber of Commerce along with the Colton Area Museum refuses to highlight any African American activities or individuals. This has led to many businesses taking their tax-paying businesses to neighboring cities like Rialto, San Bernardino, and Riverside,” according to Eugene Valdez, Chair of the South Colton Diversity Committee.

Anyone wishing to attend the February 18th event should RSVP with SCDC Chairperson April Lopez (909) 557-7981.
