A Look Back on an Accomplished 2022 in Moreno Valley

From repairing roads to opening new businesses to bringing more parks and trails to the community, the City of Moreno Valley had a busy 2022.

Moreno Valley continued to focus on providing services to residents throughout the year. The City devoted tens of millions of dollars to road repair, public safety, and parks; and brought the community together with exciting events at the Civic Center Amphitheater.

"I am proud of everything we have achieved as a community throughout 2022," said Ulises Cabrera, Mayor of Moreno Valley. "Good things are on the horizon for our great City, and I can't wait to see what 2023 will bring."

The following is a partial list of the City’s achievements this year:

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

·     Over 6,000 building permits were issued this year, as well as over 25,000 building & safety construction inspections. Over 24,000 customers were helped in 2022.

·     The animal shelter logged nearly 18,000 visits, over 9,000 field service calls, and celebrated over 2,500 positive outcomes for sheltered pets.

COMMUNITY ENHANCEMENT

·     The City’s Code Enforcement team conducted nearly 16,000 neighborhood service inspections and assisted nearly 12,000 customers this year. 

·     The City’s Homeless to Work and Homeless Assistance programs continued to assist people in need, allowing people experiencing homelessness a gateway to employment and an opportunity to get back on their feet. 

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

·     The Business and Employment Resource Center (BERC) served over 20,000 customers, hosted 136 workforce training workshops, and 88 small business workshops. Hundreds of job seekers attended our quarterly job fairs at the Conference & Recreation Center, connecting with the finest local employers and tradespeople.

·     More businesses continue to open in the City, including Raising Cane's, Sprouts Farmers Market, Car Pros Kia, and many more.

·     An independent report released this year from the UC Riverside School of Business Center for Economic Forecasting and Development noted that Moreno Valley has created nearly 30,000 new jobs over the past ten years.

PUBLIC SAFETY

·     Our Moreno Valley Firefighters responded to over 20,000 calls for service, including 16,000 emergency medical calls and nearly 700 fire calls. Moreno Valley police officers responded to over 120,000 calls for service throughout 2022.

·     The Moreno Valley City Council approved a massive $5.5 million investment into public safety, hiring more motor deputies, a Fire Medic Squad, a Park Ranger, and more.

·     The City's Fire Prevention Team inspected over 1,300 businesses and over 500 apartments, ensuring Moreno Valley remains safe from fire.

·     Our police officers continue to make illegal fireworks a top non-emergency priority, issuing thousands of dollars in tickets throughout 2022.

·     Thousands of residents got to know their Moreno Valley first responders during the annual Public Safety Expo and National Night Out.

PUBLIC WORKS

·     Over 4,000 potholes were filled throughout Moreno Valley in 2022.

·     Graffiti abatement crews responded to over 11,000 locations across Moreno Valley.

·     Over 314 miles of roadway were striped throughout 2022, and over 18,000 miles of curbs were swept throughout the year.

·     The City Council approved the Pavement Rehabilitation Program, a historic $50 million pavement project that will rehabilitate nearly 190 miles of road across Moreno Valley within 18 months.

FINANCIAL & MANAGEMENT SERVICES

·     The City established WiFi Gardens in three additional City parks, expanding the total to 28 locations throughout Moreno Valley.

·     The City received the prestigious Achievement of Excellence in Procurement (AEP) award from the National Procurement Institute for the seventh consecutive year. This award honors municipalities who have demonstrated continued excellence, transparency, innovation, and best practices in public procurement.

PARKS & COMMUNITY SERVICES

·     The Parks team conducted over 1,200 classes throughout 2022, and nearly 1,400 classes at the Senior Community Center.

·     Hundreds of residents of all ages attended the quarterly Beautify MoVal Community Days of Service, which furthered the beautification of parks throughout the City.

·     The City opened Santiago Park, Moreno Valley's 33rd park, and opened the latest extension of the Juan Bautista de Anza Trail from El Potrero Park to Lake Perris.

·     The Moreno Valley City Council approved the $6 million Parks Rehabilitation and Refurbishment Program, the largest single parks investment in the City's history. Under the plan, all 33 of Moreno Valley's parks will receive various upgrades.

·     The City Council also approved a $4.4 million expansion of the Moreno Valley Senior Center.

·     NATOA Awards for Overall Excellence in Government Programming, Community Awareness, Public/Community Meetings, and Library Programming

·     STAR Awards for Best Public Service Announcement, Best Use of Animation or Motion Graphics, Best Monthly or Weekly News Series, Best Promotional Video, and Best Public Affairs Video.

·     CAPIO awards for Social Media Campaign and Marketing and Promotional Items.

Economic Development/Community Development Department

·     Turning Red Tape into Red Carpet Awards for Innovative Use of Technology for Moreno Valley's WiFi Gardens and Sustainability/Green Development for the Eliminating Water Waste - Turf Removal project.

Financial & Management Services

·     Achievement of Excellence in Procurement (AEP) award from the National Procurement Institute for the seventh consecutive year.

Technology Services Division

·     Municipal Information Systems Association of California (MISAC) award for Excellence in Information Technology Practices for the 20th consecutive year.

Parks & Community Services

·     CPRS Community Champion Award for the Kawhi Leonard Basketball Court at Weston Park.

 

·     Champion of Change Award from Think Together for Moreno Valley's After-School Programs.
