August 17 – September 30, 2018. Opening Party: Saturday, August 18 from 3-5 PM. Closing Party: Sunday, September 30 at 2 PM followed by Live Auction from 3 PM until completed.

Gallery Route One is open every day during THE BOX SHOW™ from 11 AM to 5 PM with extended hours till 7 pm on Saturdays.

In 1999, Gallery Route One gave wood boxes to the artists to create anything they wished. Nineteen years later THE BOX SHOW™ is more popular than ever! Why do more than 7,000 people come to see THE BOX SHOW™ at Gallery Route One in rural West Marin’s Point Reyes Station every year?

Because there is so much fun and amazement in seeing and bidding on these transformed boxes! In the hands of both professional and amateur community artists they have become fantastic, imaginative and wild works of art. While images of previous years’ boxes are on view to promote the show, this year’s boxes will be a surprise revealed only when the show opens.

For THE BOX SHOW™, Gallery Route One distributes 150 identically sized wooden boxes to 150 people, some noted artists and some just regular people in the community eager to let their art flags fly.  Roughly two months later, each Box Artist’s work of art goes on display at the gallery for seven weeks.  Silent bidding for the boxes occurs throughout the exhibition, culminating in the dynamic live auction, this year being held on Sunday, September 30.

THE BOX SHOW™ is not only an opportunity for so many artists to flex their creative muscles, it also helps to support Gallery Route One’s other outreach programs: the Artists in the Schools Program; the Latino Photography Project; With the Earth: Arts and the Environment; and our Social Justice exhibits.

There is something for everyone to enjoy at the Box Show™. Come and experience the inventive and ingenious way art can be created starting with a plain wood box. This is an S.F. Bay Area tradition. Don’t miss THE BOX SHOW™!
