On Saturday Feb. 6, a third alarm structure fire grabbed the attention of local fire and police officials. Fire companies were dispatched to 24035 Sunnymead Blvd. at 11:32 a.m. First arriving officials reported a 1-story commercial strip mall with a large amount of fire coming from local auto repair shop, Advance Muffler. The fire spread to a second business to the west and caused minor smoke damage to one other business. Two vehicles in the muffler shop also burned. Additionally, embers caused a second fire one block away in the 24100 block of Webster Ave. involving vegetation, a boat, and a utility trailer. Sixty-five firefighting personnel battled the blaze. There was one injury, a civilian with minor burns to his hands. The cause is believed to be accidental. No dollar loss available at this time. American Medical Response, CAL FIRE/Riverside, Moreno Valley PD (RSO), Riverside County Fire Department, Southern California Edison, and Southern California Gas Company responded to the fire. According to the Riverside County Fire Department, the fire was contained at 12:21 p.m. Damages are estimated at $500,000.
