SAN BERNARDINO>> Emmerton Elementary School students are making hope happen in their community by organizing a blanket drive that will benefit needy residents. Second-grade students in teacher Patricia Mondragon’s class decided to make their community a better place by collecting blankets that will be distributed just as temperatures begin to dip. The students partnered with the New York-based organization Stars of Hope, who visited San Bernardino as part of the city’s remembrance of the December 2, 2015, terrorist attack at the Inland Regional Center. Stars of Hope representatives visited Emmerton Elementary on Thursday, Dec. 1 to recognize the charitable work of the students. San Bernardino City Unified School District officials, first responders from District Police and the San Bernardino Police, and Fire Departments were also on hand to receive a star for the work they do every day to spread hope in the community.
