Farmers Market Temporarily Relocated

The city’s Saturday Farmers’ Market will temporarily relocate for repaving. The year-round market will temporarily relocate to the northwest corner of the Redlands Mall parking lot Saturday, Jan. 24, in order to accommodate next week’s repaving of the Ed Hales Park parking lot between Fifth and Sixth streets, as part of a continuing effort to enhance public facilities and revitalization of Historic Downtown Redlands. The repaving is expected to take one week. In addition to providing public parking for Redlands historic downtown, the parking lot at Ed Hales Park regularly hosts the weekly Saturday Morning Farmers Market. City staff met with business owners in the downtown area seeking recommendations for the best time of year to complete the work with the least disruption to local business. As a result of those recommendations, the work was scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Jan. 20. The weekly Farmers’ Market will relocate for one weekend as a result of the repaving work. Since June 6, 2009, the Saturday Morning Certified Farmers’ Market has brought local growers and fresh local produce to the City of Redlands. The market operates from 8 to 11 a.m. every Saturday, excluding holiday weekends. The market is an expansion of the city’s successful Market Night, which, in addition to a variety of merchants and entertainers, brings tens of thousands of residents, out of town visitors and local growers to State Street every Thursday night. The Saturday Morning Certified Farmers Market provides an additional venue for local growers and a source of fresh produce for residents and visitors. As an added benefit, the market brings new customers to historic Downtown Redlands where they can enjoy the shops and restaurants along State Street and the surrounding area. Since 2009, many local restaurants have opened their doors early on Saturday morning to accommodate the additional customers. The Ed Hales Park parking lot resurfacing project is designed and will be managed by the City of Redlands Municipal Utilities and Engineering Department. The city will continue to make a concerted effort to minimize disruptions for businesses in the project area. No parking will be allowed in the parking lot for the duration of the resurfacing activities. The contractor for the project is Matich Corp. of San Bernardino. All project costs are funded by the City of Redlands Palmetto Grove Fund. No general fund dollars will be used to construct this project.
