Mayor's Message: Rental Rescue

Dear Moreno Valley Residents,

Over the last year, we have spent a lot of time at home to slow the pandemic and keep ourselves and our loved ones safe. Many of us are working from home, and our kids are learning from home. I often meet with our community leaders, neighbors, and the City Council virtually from my own home.

As the saying goes, home is the starting place of love, hope, and dreams.

But the pandemic has taken a heavy toll on our lives and dreams. As savings accounts become depleted, many residents are falling behind on rent. The reality for many in Moreno Valley -- and nearly 1 in 5 Americans nationwide – is unpaid rent and utility bills. Renters and landlords have enough to worry about, and I am determined that past due rent not be one of them.

This is why we launched the MoVal Rental Rescue Program. And why more recently, we have expanded this vital lifeline for our renters, landlords, and the entire community. Available NOW, the Rental Rescue Program provides financial assistance for up to a year of unpaid rent and utilities. Rental Rescue may also help with moving costs and up to three months of upcoming rent for those most in need.

Landlords can support their tenants and apply on their behalf, ensuring they don’t fall behind on their mortgages and responsibilities to their tenants.

Accessing the program is simple at www.moval.org/rentalrescue.

Together, as we look ahead to brighter days, we can also ensure our homes remain the sanctuary of comfort and safety everyone deserves and every MoVal family needs.
