Stater Bros. Charities, Inland Women Fighting Cancer Donate $238,000 to LLUCC

Patients receiving treatment at the Women’s Cancer and Surgical Oncology Center at Loma Linda University Cancer Center (LLUCC) will receive enhanced services, thanks to a gift of $238,000 from Stater Bros. Charities and Inland Women Fighting Cancer. The donation will support “cancer patient navigators,” staff who will assist patients as they make their way through the sometimes-complicated health care process, from scheduling laboratory tests to understanding their various treatment options. Representatives from Stater Bros. Charities and IWFC presented a check to LLUCC officials on Aug. 14. “This is such a proud day for us because it is our desire for the Loma Linda University Cancer Center to be a vital resource for cancer patients in our region,” said Susan Atkinson, president and CEO of Stater Bros. Charities. “We are extremely pleased to present this gift because it will help enhance services that are not normally covered by medical insurance—services that are much needed by the patients,” she said. Nancy Varner, Inland Women Fighting Cancer co-founder, said Stater Bros. Charities’ support of the fight against cancer has already made a big impact on the community, including construction of the new Patient Resource Center at the LLUCC. “The generosity of the Stater Bros. family and their CEO, Jack H. Brown, has made a huge difference in the lives of many people here in our region,” she said. Dr. Mark Reeves, Loma Linda University Cancer Center director, said continuing support from Stater Bros. Charities and IWFC in areas such as supportive care services, research and acquisition of equipment has greatly enhanced the treatment that patients receive at the center. “It has been a blessing to be partners with Stater Bros. Charities and Inland Women Fighting Cancer because they have been tireless advocates for cancer patients here in the Inland Empire,” he said.
