Last week Arrowhead Regional Medical Center hosted the annual Emergency Medical Services (EMS) day for the second year in a row, showcasing life-saving techniques and equipment from several local EMS organizations in a day of educational fun. Put on by the medical center's Department of Emergency Medicine, the event was held last Wednesday morning at the ARMC heliport just behind the hospital. "The goal of this event was to share with resident physicians, nurses and other health care professionals the many challenges that EMS personnel face each day,” said Dr. Rodney Borger, chairman of ARMC’s Emergency Department. “ARMC is a Level II Trauma Center and is an integral part of the local emergency medical care system.” Following welcoming remarks by Dr. Borger, attendees had the opportunity to visit with various organizations including: San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department; San Bernardino County Probation Department; Colton Fire Department; Rialto Fire Department; Inland Valley SWAT Team; Medical Reserves Corps; and ARMC’s Disaster Preparedness team. ARMC’s Emergency Department, with more than 116,000 patient visits each year, includes a helicopter landing area outside of the Emergency Department that can accommodate both standard medical evacuation helicopters and military helicopters.
