A play adaptation of a 1980s comedy will hit San Bernardino's historic downtown. Four performances of "9 to 5: The Musical," based on the 1980 film "9 to 5" starring Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, will be presented by the Theatrical Arts International at the California Theater of the Performing Arts, 562 W. Fourth St. in San Bernardino, for two days. Shows run at 8 p.m. Feb. 13, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Feb.14 and at 2 p.m. Feb. 15. Joseph Henson of Theatrical Arts Intenrational, said, "We're really looking forward to presenting this show to our Inland Empire theatergoers. It's a lot of fun and we're sure people will enjoy it." Featuring music and lyrics by Parton and the book by Patricia Resnick, "9 to 5: The Musical" tells the story of three female colleagues tired of their sexist and egotistical boss, and plot revenge of the hilarious kind. Set in 1979, Dora Lee, Judy and Violet take matters into their own hands, kidnapping their boss and holding him hostage - all while taking care of business better than he could. Parton earned an Academy Award nomination and four Grammy Award nominations for the song "9 to 5," and the song won her awards for Best Country Song and Best Country Vocal Performance. The musical had its world premiere at the Center Theatre Group's Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles on Sept. 20, 2008 and ran through Oct. 19. It won two Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards. It opened on Broadway on April 30, 2009, and ran for 148 performances through Sept. 6, 2009. It received 15 Drama Desk nominations and four Tony Award nominations. A U.S. tour took place in 2010-20-11, followed by a United Kingdom tour in 2012. Regional productions took place throughout the United States in 2012 and 2013. Tickets for the show are now on sale and range from $38.50 to $77.50. They are available through www.ticketmaster.com or at the theater box office. The California Theater box office can be reached at 909-885-5152.
